Kari Prestemon is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker who has been practicing as a therapist for 20 years in a variety of settings, primarily in outpatient mental health clinics. She is also licensed as a School Social Worker and has been employed by the Northfield Public Schools for the past 10+ years at the High School. She graduated with a Bachelors of Social Work from Luther College, Decorah, IA and a Masters of Science in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Kari’s approach to therapy is eclectic because she draws on multiple theories, but practices primarily CBT, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She enjoys working with the whole spectrum of life from children up to adults. Her strengths are working with depression and anxiety, but her experiences range from sexual abuse/trauma/PTSD to grief and loss concerns and relationship problems. She provides individual, family and group work. Her philosophy is that life is good and everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy it. Therapy allows one to learn new skills and rid themselves of unnecessary burdens. In her free time, Kari enjoys watching her children’s activities, playing the French horn, reading and spending time with family and friends.
