Counseling for Trauma

Counseling for Trauma

From the beginning of your day to the end of your day, you are constantly running. Running to help others and running away from yourself. You need to hold it together to make it through the day and then to do it all over again tomorrow. You are exhausted, overwhelmed, and lonely.

Things fell apart. Your way of being and carefully crafted persona was taken apart by trauma. You patched yourself together and you soldiered on.

The armor that you are wearing is heavy and constricting, and not very soft. Yet, you cannot put it down because you would feel too vulnerable. You know that you are safe now, but you don’t feel safe. There is so much about you that people don’t know because you hold it all in. You don’t think people would love you if they knew who you really are, how flawed you are.
You are not sure how long you can carry on like that, but you don’t know how to live any other way.

You think there must be more to life than just surviving. You wouldn’t want anybody else to struggle like you. Is there any hope for me? Could I ever stop running? You ask yourself as you find yourself depleted to go on like this.

The worst part is over: you survived. Healing from a painful past is possible. As a trauma specialist, I will help you heal from traumatic memories and restore your innate joy, calm, and resilience. To promote holistic healing, we will use techniques from evidence-based practices as well as from wisdom traditions. Some of the practices might include mindfulness meditation, EMDR, and sensorimotor therapy.

I will help you understand how your nervous system and your brain are impacted by trauma and how you can regain optimal functioning.

I will give you tools that will allow you to calm yourself and your nervous system. You will feel at home in your body again. In order to live an intentional life, you need to live in a relaxed muscle body. I will help you trust your perceptions again and regain closeness with your loved ones and personal effectiveness with others.

We will move at a pace that is comfortable for you. Together, we can examine the believes that you hold about yourself and update these that are inaccurate or untrue because they were driven by shame. You will gain a deeper understanding of where your feelings and beliefs come from and how to change them. You will develop clarity about who you are and the life you want to lead. This is often referred to as “post-traumatic growth” which involves a changed perception of yourself, your relationships, and your philosophy of life. We will excavate your authentic self and tend to your soul, mind, and body to open you up for the new possibilities.
